Learning Experience Overview
Students should be given the opportunity to produce targeted grammatical structures in writing and receive feedback using coded error markings. Not all markings need to be introduced at this level; focus should be given to the markings that correspond with the target grammar the students are learning in class.
The frequency and length of writing is determined by the teacher and can be increased as needed throughout the semester. This can happen with timed writing (anywhere from 5-30 minutes) once, twice, or three times a week in response to an academic topic. Teachers can encourage students to use a recently taught grammar structure in their response.
One way to apply dynamic corrective feed is through ten-minute paragraphs (optional)
- Students write a 10-minute paragraph in class, and the teacher provides feedback in the form of coded error markings. Students will make the necessary corrections for at least three drafts or until the paragraph is error-free.
- These packets can be copied into Google sheets for each student, or teachers can use the questions for writing prompts in a different tool.
