Foundations Prep - Writing & Grammar

Course Description

This course helps students begin to write short texts in English with some control over basic sentence structures. Students will learn new vocabulary words and how to use them in basic writing. They will learn how to write short phrases and sentences that will help them function in routine interactions.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Writes level-appropriate text.
    1. Writes name, age, nationality and other biographical information. 
    2. Writes lists of vocabulary words. 
    3. Transcribes simple written sentences or simple memorized sentences.
  2. Produces simple sentences with basic grammatical accuracy.
    1. Demonstrates subject, verb, object order in controlled sentences.
    2. Uses subject/complement structure.
    3. Uses basic question structures.
    4. Distinguishes between irregular and regular verbs.
    5. Uses sentence case capitalization.
    6. Uses end-of-sentence punctuation (.?!).
  3. Incorporates vocabulary in writing.
    1. Transcribes written words with readable penmanship.
    2. Spells high frequency, memorized vocabulary correctly.
