Foundations Prep - Listening & Speaking

Course Description

This course helps students improve their speaking and listening skills in basic English conversations. Students will learn new vocabulary words and how to use them in formulaic conversation. They will learn how to speak and understand short phrases and sentences that will help them function in routine interactions.

  1. Understands level-appropriate speech and dialogue.
    1. Recognizes key words in statements and short conversations such as greetings and instructions.
    2. Understands formulaic phrases with context clues and multiple re-listenings.
    3. Understands the main idea of simple conversations and instructions using context clues and background knowledge.
    4. Recognizes turn-taking cues and question intonation.
  2.  Produces level-appropriate speech.
    1. Recites target vocabulary and phrases from memory.
    2. Uses target vocabulary in biographical statements and short conversations about immediate surroundings.
    3. Recombines target vocabulary or produces stock phrases when responding to requests or making statements.
