Preparation Tasks
- Prepare for proficiency assignment
- Proficiency assignments that require preparation, such as a presentation, can have a connected learning experience grade. This allows the student to receive recognition on the effort required to produce the larger task.
- Group work for project
- As part of any project, students will need to use a significant amount of advanced language to negotiate the task with the team. Learning experience points for this preparation acknowledges the language skill it takes to make a group project successful.
- Participation in activity
- Any activity you ask students to participate in can have a learning experience grade attached to it. The definition of “participation” in the activity can range depending on the engagement required for the task and the teacher’s perspective. Some activities might be graded on a pass/fail scale while others might have more range in possible grades. Some activities may be graded through a self-report. Others may be impacted by the completion of a task by a deadline.
- Practice tests/quizzes
- On occasion, you may want to provide a pre-test on a grammar concept to inform your teaching. These assessments can be created using the test banks that accompany the textbooks and can range from multiple-choice form questions to timed writing or speaking that elicits the grammar structures.
- Practice tests can also be used to show the students what to expect on a test. This allows them to know what questions to ask before the actual exam.
- The diagnostic tests at the beginning of the semester are a good example of how practice tests both inform teaching and set up student expectations for the course.
