Learning Experience Overview
Presentations: (Link to Level 3)These can be done individually, with a partner, or in a group. Students have the opportunity to prepare and practice delivering the information. Visual aids can be used, but the focus should be on the student's speaking. Discussion boards on Canvas can be used as a vehicle for presentations. Speeches also fit in this category.
Recordings: Students record their answers to questions. These could be spontaneous or planned. Variations of this may include creating podcasts and newscasts. Students can also benefit from listening to the initial recording and recognizing areas to improve before recording again.
Timed Speaking: Activities such as TOEFL and LATs practice require the students to accomplish a task with limited preparation time and a strict amount of time for the response. Impromptu speeches may be a good way to apply this.
Summaries: Students listen to or read from an original source and practice presenting what they understood to an audience. The integrated speaking practice for the TOEFL can be used for this experience. This might include book reports related to what they read in the reading class.
